Repentance

The Holy Spirit escorts us into repentance by showing us two pictures. The first is the truth about how bad we really are and the second is the truth about how good God really is. This sharp disparity brings our souls into alignment. We see that we are utterly helpless yet altogether blessed. If we were to see our sin without the goodness of God then we would slip into depression. If we were to see the goodness of God without seeing the depth of our sin then we could never act on it. God brings us to the depth of our depravity to magnify the height of His love. As it is written, “Whoever has been forgiven little loves little”. (Luke 7:47b)
