Watch and Pray

The times are dark and the sounds are soft. There is an overwhelming temptation to sleep but if not to sleep then perhaps just to let our eyes close for a moment. Oh, how tender and seductive the whispers of the world are. They draw our weak minds to a life of comfort, ease, and baroness. Like a cunning spider we are trapped in its web before we know we are even in danger. But praise be to God who sends out the warning call. Like a sharp arrow into the deep night His Word penetrates me. You say “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Christ knew that we live in world that is always cast in shadow and causes men to slumber. But He did not leave us without hope. In the silence–in the darkness came forth the promise of light; a remedy for spiritual lethargy. The promised Holy Spirit to awaken the generations! May the Spirit fill us and wake us up again to the battle going on around us. May we be found with open eyes in the dead of night waiting for our masters return!
